Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said on Thursday that the largest democracy in the world is in crisis. Referring to the suspension of 146 INDIA alliance Members of Parliament from the Winter Session over the last few days, he stated that there is a “conspiracy going on to convert Parliament into a platform for the ruling party.”
The whole country is seeing that BJP is strangling democracy by arbitrarily passing important bills without discussion and debate, he remarked in his opening statement at the Congress Working Committee meeting (CWC).
Mallikarjun Kharge maintained that the Opposition had extended full cooperation in the Parliament session but after the intrusion incident on 13th December, their MPs demanded a demanding a statement from the Home Minister and a comprehensive discussion on this issue in both the Houses, which the government made a “question of prestige”.
Referring to Vice President and Chairman of Rajya Sabha, Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Congress President said that the VP has failed to fulfill his obligations under the Constitution and the whole country was watching it.
“The biggest challenge is that the people holding constitutional positions, who are responsible for providing protection to the opposition MPs, are themselves becoming a part of party politics and doing politics using caste, region and occupation as their shield, Kharge stated.
On the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Mallikarjun Kharge stressed that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc must win as many seats as possible and announced the constitution of a five-member National Alliance Committee, which will decide the contours of the alliance with other parties.
