Governor of Nagaland Ajay Kumar Bhalla has expressed grief at the sudden demise of Imkong L Imchen, MLA and Advisor, Information and Public Relations, Soil & Water Conservation at Apollo Hospital, Guwahati today.
In a condolence message, the Governor said late Imkong L Imchen had served the society in various capacities, as a student leader, public leader, Cabinet Minister, and as Advisor to the Government of Nagaland. In his death, the State has lost a dedicated and sincere leader.
On behalf of the people of Nagaland and his own behalf, the Governor conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God give grace and fortitude to bear this profound loss and grant them solace at this hour of pain.
Neiphiu Rio
Chief Minister, Neipihu Rio expressed grief at the demise of Imkong L Imchen, Advisor to the Government of Nagaland today at Guwahati.
In a condolence message, Rio stated that Imchen was not only a colleague but also a dear friend. He said Imchen was a visionary leader, who had the rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Throughout his political journey, he worked tirelessly and selflessly for the welfare of the people, he added.
In his passing, the Ao community and the Naga people have lost a stalwart leader, and the void he leaves behind will be difficult to fill, Rio stated.
On behalf of the State Government, he conveyed deepest condolences to Alila Imkong and the bereaved family and prayed that God Almighty grant them strength and comfort in this time of sorrow
Paiwang Konyak:
Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Paiwang Konyak expressed grief at the passing of Imkong L Imchen.
In his condolence message, Konyak said late Imchen was more than a politician. He was a statesman of rare character, known for his humor, openness and fearless voice in speaking truth for the people he represented and the Nagas in general. His warmth and wit touched many lives and his candor reflected the courage of a man who led with both heart and conviction, he added.
Konyak extended deepest condolences to the family, colleagues and constituents.
H Sethrongkyu:
Advisor, IT&C, Economics & Statistics and Evaluation, H Sethrongkyu, while expressing grief at the demise of Imkong L Imchen, said late Imchen was also a visible champion for the preservation and promotion of Nagaland’s heritage and public outreach.
Under his guidance, the Information & Public Relations department undertook archival and cultural initiatives, a reflection of his interest in preserving the State’s history while strengthening government-citizen communication, he said adding his long years of legislative experience and public engagement earned him respect across party and community lines.
On behalf of those who worked with and benefited from his dedicated service, he extended deepest condolences and gratitude for his decades of commitment to the people of Nagaland.
K Therie:
Former Minister, K Therie expressed shock at the untimely demise of Imkong L Imchen. Therie also recalled his association with Imchen for over 20 years in serving the people together when he was in the Congress party, serving in various capacities.
Stating that his passing away is a great loss to Naga society, Therie conveyed deepest sympathies to the bereaved family members and prayed that Almighty comfort them all.

DIPR Nagaland:
The Department of Information & Public Relations expressed deep sorrow at the passing away of Advisor, Information & Public Relations, Soil & Water Conservation, late Imkong L Imchen.
The DIPR described Imchen as a veteran statesman and one of the senior most members among the State’s legislators, Late Imkong L. Imchen was a leader of stature whose long years of public service were marked by commitment and wisdom, it said.
The DIPR stated that as Advisor to the Department of IPR, late Imchen took a deep and personal interest in its functioning and constantly encouraged the Department to evolve with the changing media landscape to strengthen its role as the voice and communication arm of the Government. His vision for institutional discipline, professionalism and the use of modern communication tools guided many of the Department’s ongoing reforms and initiatives, it said.
The Department conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.
NPCC:
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed grief at the passing of Imkong L Imchen, MLA and Advisor, Department of Information & Public Relations and Department of Soil & Water Conservation, Government of Nagaland.
In a condolence message, the NPCC said veteran public leader, Imkong L Imchen had also served as Vice President of the NPCC and as President of the District Congress Committee, Mokokchung. His contributions to the Congress party will always be remembered and cherished, it said.
The NPCC also conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones.
NPP Nagaland:
National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland has expressed deep sorrow and profound grief at the sudden demise of Imkong L Imchen, Hon’ble MLA and Advisor, who passed away in Guwahati.
In a condolence message, the NPP said late Imkong L Imchen was a seasoned and respected leader who dedicated his life in service to the people of Nagaland. His decades of political experience, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to public welfare have left an indelible mark on the State’s political and social landscape, it added.

AKM and OKM
The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) have expressed deep sorrow at the passing of Late Imkong L. Imchen, senior Nagaland legislator, Advisor for Information & Public Relations, and Soil & Water Conservation, and five-time MLA from 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency.
In a condolence message, the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) described Late Imkong L. Imchen as a “visionary leader and son of the soil” who dedicated his life to serving the Naga people. AKM recalled his significant contributions to student and youth welfare during his tenure as AKM President (1982–84) and General Secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation (1983–85). His selfless support and guidance toward the student community, it stated, will always be cherished.
AKM further stated that Late Imchen was a blunt and fearless leader and among the most ardent supporters of the Conference, terming his passing as an irreparable loss to both the Ao community and the Naga people. The organization conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the Ongpangkong Students’ Conference (OKM) also mourned the sudden demise of Late
Imkong L. Imchen, noting his roles as former President of AKM and former General Secretary of the Naga Students’ Federation. The OKM stated that his death has created an irreplaceable void not only within the Ao community but among the entire Naga community.
Describing him as a true statesman whose vision and determination reshaped society, the OKM said his exemplary and relentless service towards the upliftment of the society will be remembered with deep respect and gratitude. It extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying that the
Almighty grant them strength and solace, and that the departed soul rest in eternal peace.
KPC:
The Kohima Press Club has expressed grief at the demise of Imkong L Imchen, Advisor to the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR), who passed away on November 11 at a private hospital in Guwahati.
The KPC said he was not only a veteran politician and respected public leader but also a good friend of the Kohima Press Club.
The KPC recalled their last interaction with him in August this year in his office chamber at the Secretariat where he showed great commitment towards addressing the issues and challenges faced by the media fraternity in the state.
The KPC said in his passing, it has have lost one of Nagaland’s visionary leaders and a bright soul, whose legacy it would always remember.
The Club prayed that the departed soul rest in peace and conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
MPC:
The Mokokchung Press Club (MPC) expressed profound grief at the passing of Imkong L. Imchen, a veteran statesman and one of Nagaland’s most respected political leaders.
Stating that his decades of public service were marked by exemplary leadership, integrity, and an abiding concern for the welfare of the people, the Press Club acknowledged with deep appreciation his contributions to governance and his cordial association with the media fraternity.
