The Women Cell of MGM College, Dimapur, organised an impactful awareness programme on the theme “Empowering Women with Legal Awareness” on October 27, informed a press release by the college. The initiative was spearheaded by committee members Temjenzungla Aier, Assistant Professor, Department of History, and Sungjemlila Jamir, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science.
The resource person for the programme was Advocate Nishela Assumi, Panel Lawyer, DDLSA (Dimapur District Legal Services Authority). In her address, Advocate Assumi highlighted the various rights and legal provisions for women enshrined in the Indian Constitution, emphasizing the need for women to be informed and assertive about their rights.

She also elaborated on the Victim Compensation Scheme, which provides financial assistance to victims of crime. She informed that the scheme can be availed by approaching any local DDLSA office with an application supported by an FIR, medical report, and relevant judgment.
The session was chaired by Tianhanla, B.A. 5th Semester, who efficiently conducted the proceedings. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Vili Kibami, IQAC Coordinator. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Temjenzungla Aier, Assistant Professor, Department of History. The programme served as a significant step towards promoting legal literacy, empowerment, and gender equality, encouraging women to stand up for their rights and contribute to a just society, stated the press release.
