Legal awareness program held at Mon

Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) in collaboration with Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK) organised a Legal Awareness Programme on February 28 at DRDA Resource Centre, Mon Town. Justice Yarenjungla Longkumer, Judge, Gauhati High Court and Portfolio Judge, Nagaland graced the programme as a Special Guest.

The Special Guest, in his keynote address, said that the strength of a society/ nation depends on the status of the women in society. He emphasized that in order to build a strong and developed society, gender equality is important and that gender equality starts from a family. The role of a mother was heavily reflected upon in his message. He added that in order to build confidence, knowing one’s rights is important.

Neiko Akami, NJS, Member Secretary, NSLSA spoke on the Role of Legal Services in Authority activities. He stated that Legal services is an institution mainly concerned for the welfare of women, children, disabled individuals, and provides free, competent legal services to marginalized in the society.

Ajongba Imchen, NJS, Registrar Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, explained various aspects of POCSO Act 2012. B. Peter Resu, NJS, Jt. Registrar (Judicial) cum CPC, Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, highlighted the Domestic Violence Act, 2005.

KNSK President, Ponglem Konyak, extended her gratitude to the Special Guest and her team from Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench. She said that such Awareness programmes are important in our society. She urged the participants to learn and be aware of their rights.

The programme was chaired by Topha, Panel lawyer, DLSA. Invocation was pronounced by Mongyeang Konyak. Vote of thanks was delivered by Wokono Yhoshii, NJS, Chief Judicial magistrate cum Secretary, DLSA, Mon.
