The Lhisemia Students Union (LSU) celebrated its 75th Anniversary with a grand finale event scheduled on October 14 at the courtyard of T.M. Government Higher Secondary School/Kohima College Kohima (KCK).
Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education & State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his speech, he acknowledged that reaching 75 years is a remarkable milestone, and while reflecting on its history, Dr. Yhome pointed out that the student union predates the khel council. “The journey has been extensive, encompassing significant changes from ancient times to the modern world. In 1946, only three schools existed, but tremendous progress has since been made, with nearly 40 schools now established, comprising both private and government institutions,” stated Dr. Yhome.
Speaking on the significance of enhancing the quality of government schools in and around Kohima, Dr. Yhome urged everyone to collaborate and contribute towards this initiative. “These achievements cannot be accomplished in isolation, but with collective efforts, we can work towards improving society as a whole,” said Dr. Yhome.
He also motivated the Union to strive towards establishing additional achievement awards at both the village and state levels, and further pledged his support in providing any necessary assistance for these endeavors, ensuring upliftment for all.
Ayie Yhome, Chairman of Lhisemia Khel, in his speech, expressed gratitude to their ancestors who established this union, and commended the Students’ union for their dedicated support and guidance in helping the students of their Khel and Village.
Yhome emphasized the importance of evaluating the quality of the fruits they are enjoying today, and encouraged building a strong relationship with God, nurturing good character, and working diligently to lead an independent life. In this competitive world, he urged everyone to motivate and compete with each other and the rest of the world. “Relying solely on your parents to push you in your studies and hard work would not suffice. In today’s times, parents often spoil their children by giving in to the every whim of their children without setting proper limits so we should all be aware of these issues,” stated the Chairman.
During his brief address, Tseivilie Miachieo, the former president of LSU (1975-76), discussed the challenges they encountered in their academic journey during his tenure. He urged the students to recognize the value of their time, emphasizing that it is invaluable. Rather than dwelling on what they lack, he advised them to appreciate what they have and put in diligent effort.
