Senapati: UNC 48 Hours to authorities to deliver justice for innocent woman

Normal life came to a standstill in four Manipur districts of Senapati, Ukhrul, Chandel, and Tamenglong following a 12-hour bandh called by the United Naga Council (UNC) to protest the killing of M. Lucy Marem, age 54 a Maring Naga woman of Beaularham village, Chandel district on Saturday evening in Imphal East.

UNC, the apex Naga civil body in Manipur, has sought justice for the killed woman within 48 hours.

Shops were shut and streets wore a deserted look in the four above mentioned districts as people preferred to stay home.

The bandh which began from 6 AM this morning till 6 PM today, did not see much response in the districts of Kamjong and Noney which too are dominated by Nagas settled in Manipur.

The decision for the bandh call was taken at an emergency meeting held in Senapati on July 16. The UNC urged the state government to take swift action and apprehend those responsible for the heinous crime.

The UNC demanded a Judiciary Inquiry Committee to conduct a thorough investigation into the ‘cold-blooded killing’.

The UNC has also warned of further agitation if it’s demands are not fulfilled and the miscreants caught within two days that is by end of today.
