Life Connect Nagaland partners with Old Age Home Meriema to empower elderly by equipping practical skills

Meriema: Collaboration reflects power of intergenerational learning and importance of nurturing potential within every age group

A heartwarming collaboration between Life Connect Nagaland and Old Age Home Meriema resulted in a skill development program aimed at enriching the lives of elderly residents. The program, held at the Old Age Home Meriema, seeks to empower the residents by equipping them with practical skills to enhance their well-being and potentially generate income.

Neithonuo Legiesie, Managing Director of the old age home, expressed gratitude to Life Connect Nagaland for partnering in this endeavour. She highlighted the positive impact of the collaboration, as it infuses hope and purpose into the lives of the elderly residents.

She asserted that the skill development training program goes beyond imparting skills, it aims to instil a sense of self-belief and purpose in the elderly participants. Legiesie emphasized the importance of nurturing their sense of self-worth, enabling them to continue contributing to society and live fulfilling lives.

Sali Ngully, Director of Life Connect Nagaland, stressed the misconception that aging implies diminished creativity or usefulness. She emphasized that with God’s grace, the elderly still possesses the ability to contribute significantly. Ngully highlighted the hidden wisdom and experience that seniors carry, making them valuable guides and mentors for younger generations.

Charemnaro, Coordinator of Life Connect Nagaland, introduced the organization’s mission to empower marginalized and vulnerable women. She underlined the diverse initiatives undertaken by Life Connect, including working with women affected by alcoholism, providing tuition to children, and fostering sustainable economic projects.

The skill development program at the Old Age Home included crafting activities such as basket-making, card-making, creating paper bags, and embroidery. The event is a testament to the belief that even in their later years, the elderly can embrace new skills, contribute meaningfully, and lead dignified lives.
