Phek Government College, in collaboration with the District Election Office, Phek, celebrated Literary Day cum Youth Voters’ Festival at Deo Nukhu Hall on Friday. DIPR informed that the event was organized by the Literary and Performing Art Club and revolved around the theme “Promoting Literacy for a World in Transition: Building the Foundation for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies.”
The program was aimed at promoting literacy, civic awareness, and active youth participation in electoral processes.
EAC (P), Phek L. Chinglem Konyak highlighted concerns about unemployment despite high literacy rates in the state. He questioned whether the education system is adequately equipping students and pointed out the complex issue of youth unemployment. He mentioned that the lack of private sector and industrial opportunities contribute to youth unemployment and emphasized the need for students to consider the relevance of their education and not simply pursue degrees for the sake of it.
DIPR also informed that during the program, Assistant Election Officer (AEO) Phek, Phachulo, emphasized the importance of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) to the students; Vedulu Thingo, Assistant Professor & Convenor of the Literary and Performing Art Club, proposed acknowledgments; Zhomule Venuh, Literary & Cultural Secretary of PGCSU, delivered the vote of thanks; while a special song was presented by “The Fervent”.
The celebration included a debate on the topic “Clean Election for 13th NLA 2023: Success or Failure.”
Various competitions, including a Fancy Dress Show, Extempore, quiz, solo competition, and painting on the theme “Clean Election and Youth Participation,” were held.
