Lok Sabha MP Jamir highlights plight of Village Guards at Parliament Budget Session 2025

Speaking during the ongoing second leg of the Parliament Budget Session 2025,  MP (Lok Sabha)  S Supongmeren Jamir on Wednesday highlighted the plight of the Nagaland Village Guards and urged the intervention of the Union Home Minister.

Kiphire, Meluri, Noklak and Longleng since its inception in 1957, has been neglected by both the State Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs.

He cited the monthly salary of Rs. 3,000, annual clothing allowances of Rs. 100 and monthly ration allowance of Rs. 60 being alloted to the village guards at present to provide a sense of the level of neglect under which they were operating.

He also urged the concerned ministry to revamp and strengthen the village guards and deploy them along the border, instead of promoting border fencing and free movement restriction policies.
