Along with the rest of the World, the District Tobacco Control Cell, Longleng observed World No Tobacco Day at Government High School, Namching under Longleng District on 31st May 2024, under the theme: “Protecting Children from Tobacco Industry Interference.”
According to a DIPR report, the District Nodal Officer NTCP, Longleng Dr. Nichukholie Vupru, gave a powerpoint presentation on the said theme. He emphasised on the various forms of advertising and deceptive marketing tactics adopted by the Tobacco Companies to lure and target young potential consumers. The students were sensitized on the harmful effects of Tobacco which are inevitable in whatever form Tobacco is consumed. He also encouraged and cautioned the students not to be victims of the advertisement presented through social Media platforms about electronic Tobacco products like e-cigarette.
The program was chaired by B. Ponghok, Headmaster GHS, Namching and a special song was also presented by the students.
The Team was led by Dr. Nichukholie Vupru District Nodal Officer, NTCP and Dr. Chumei Nyam, Dental Surgeon, Longleng.

The “World No Tobacco Day” program was observed at Phek with Deputy Commissioner John Tsulise Sangtam as the special guest at Dr. Wetshelo Mero Memorial Hall, District Hospital, Phek on May 31, informed a DIPR report.
In his speech the DC strongly advocated and urged upon the Schools and Colleges authorities to maintain rules for strict prohibition of Tobacco in their institutions. Sangtam also advised the upcoming children, not to indulge and get influenced by tobacco or habit of smoking for their health and successful living.
Speaking on the theme “Protecting children from Tobacco industry interference”, Dr. Pfukrolo Koza, District Nodal Officer for National Tobacco Control Program, narrated about the ill effects of smokeless and smoke tobacco on human health and economic life of the people.
The program was chaired by Dr. Kihito, Dental Surgeon District Hospital, Phek while Dr. Thungchanbemo Ezung Medical Superintendent DH, Phek, delivered the welcome address.
