Organised by the Horticulture Department Longleng, the event was held under the centrally sponsored scheme – Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) 2020-2021 – at Public Ground, Longleng.

Seven vegetable-growing villages from different blocks were invited to participate in the event.

During the inaugural programme, Trongdipa Tongpi Sangtam, SDO (Civil) Longleng acknowledged the horticulture department for the various farmer-oriented activities initiated in the district. The SDO also encouraged the farmers to be more sincere and make use of all the available resources.

Earlier, Talimeren, DHO Longleng welcomed the gathering while Ango Phom and Wanmei Phom from Yongam and Tangha villages respectively gave a short speech on behalf of farmers.

Fresh and Organic local farm produces were sold in the exhibition stalls during the day-long programme.

Talimeren, District Horticulture Officer, Longleng, told Nagaland Tribune that the event turned out much better than expected.

“We thought some villages like Tamlu might not turn up owing to the far-flung distance from Longleng town. However, all the invited villages participated. Moreover, their farm products were displayed more than expected,” he stated.

Talimeren further informed that the sales day was one of the first kind in Longleng.

Both the participants and the general public were happy with the sales day.

The sales day featured local produce including king chilli, pumpkin, ash gourd, darmar leaves, banana, guava, bamboo shoot products, bottle gourd, taro, yam and pineapples.

The horticulture officer said the exhibition cum sales day was well-received by both the participants and the general public. The participants were happy to be given a platform to sell their products while the general public were pleased “since the price of the products were much lesser than what they got from Longleng daily market.”
