Longmatra hosts first-ever Mango Festival in Nagaland

The Longmatra area under Kiphire district on July 19 celebrated its first ever Mango Festival, marking a significant milestone for the local community.

The first ever Longmatra Mango festival was initiated with the support of district administration, Department of Horticulture and Longmatra leaders and public as a whole, showcasing the region’s potential for mango production and economic prosperity.

EAC Longmatra, Takatemjen Pongen NCS emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship and value added products in building the Longmatra Mango brand, highlighting its potential for tourist attraction and economic monetization.

The festival also acknowledged the challenges faced by local farmers, including poor road conditions and lack of proper transportation facilities, which hinder sustainable monetization of mangoes.

“Longmatra is a gateway of Kiphire,” EAC said.

Additionally, the event also presented opportunities for growth and development for mango farmers, SHGs and local entrepreneurs.

In his address special guest, MLA and Advisor Home Guard and Civil Defence, Fire and Emergency Services, Relief and Rehabilitation, S Kiusumeu Yimchunger said the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister assured support for farmers and agriculture enthusiasts, promising machinery, monetary, and intellectual assistance to boost the mango industry.

He encouraged the agri-allied government departments to continue supporting and guidance towards making Longmatra a well recognised and quality mango hub.

Further, Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, Temsuwati Longkumer NCS encouraged the 13 villages under Longmatra area to adopt cluster farming of organic mangoes, aiming to make the region a hub for organic mangoes in Nagaland and beyond.

The festival highlighted the potential for economic prosperity through sustainable farming practices, emphasizing the importance of vision and purpose for the Longmatra area’s development and Kiphire as a whole.

The Mango Festival in Longmatra is a step towards promoting local produce, supporting farmers, and fostering economic growth in the region.

With government support and community efforts, the event is expected to have a lasting impact on the local economy and mango industry in particular.

The program was chaired by Apiba A Sangtam, invocation from Y Thsarise pastor Longmatra Town Baptist Church, presentation from Daniel Sangtam Longmatra area people organisation, Special number from Albert Jingrü, and vote of thanks from R .Muthsodang Hd DB Longmatra.

The second session of the event witnessed recreational fun and games Mango eating competition, tug of war, Mango on a pole , and same race.
