Following the incident of sexual assault against a minor in GHSS Sungro, several civil society organisations have condemned the crime.

The Lotha Eloe Hoho expressed deep shock, disappointment, and outrage over the horrific crime committed by Tama Ngullie from Pangti village, who raped a minor girl. “This despicable act is not only a grave crime against the victim but also a stain on the dignity of our society. Such inhuman and barbaric acts have no place in a civilized community, and we strongly condemn this incident in the harshest terms,” stated the Hoho.

The Lotha Eloe Hoho urged the law enforcement authorities to ensure that the perpetrator is punished to the fullest extent of the law, serving as an example to deter such crimes in the future.

Furthermore, the organisation called upon every individual in society to uphold moral values and discipline in personal and social life.

“The rising instances of violence against women and children are deeply concerning, and we must collectively work to prevent such crimes from occurring. The Lotha Eloe Hoho also issues a stern warning that any individual found guilty of such crimes will not only face legal consequences but will also be subject to strict social and customary measures,” cautioned the Hoho.

It also commended the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and the Women Police for their swift and decisive action in apprehending the perpetrator. The prompt response, according to the Hoho, reflects a strong commitment to justice and a dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of our society.

Pangti Village Students’ Union

The Pangti Village Students’ Union (P.V.S.U.) has also strongly condemned the assault, terming it as barbaric and devilish.

The union expressed grave concern over the incident and called upon the investigating Agency to leave no stone unturned in the investigation so that justice is delivered in the court of law.

“The Pangti Village Students’ Union shares the sufferings and pains of the victim who is undergoing mental and physical trauma inflicted by the perpetrator. Crimes, especially rape dehumanize societies and letting the perpetrators of such crimes go unpunished is a threat to the society. The perverted mindset of the perpetrator of this heinous crime is strongly condemned by the union and the same must be condemned by all,” stated the Union.

Lotha Students’ Union (LSU)

Condemning the alleged rape, the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) stated that the heinous crime is absolutely unacceptable, and the perpetrator must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

It also expressed concern to learn that this is not an isolated incident. “Reports from the victim’s family have confirmed that Mr. Tama has a history of such behavior, making this a clear case of serial predation. This is absolutely unacceptable and demands severe consequences,” stated the Union.

It also expressed ,”This egregious act constitutes a gross violation of human rights and dignity, particularly those of minors who are entitled to protection and care. The LSU demands that the accused be immediately terminated from his service and prosecuted under the relevant section of the POCSO Act. We expect swift and decisive action from the authorities to ensure that justice is served. Anything less would be a gross miscarriage of justice and a failure to protect the rights and safety of students.”

The Union commended the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Women Police for their prompt and timely intervention to bring the perpetrator into custody. “Their actions demonstrate a commitment to justice and a willingness to take swift action to protect the vulnerable,” it stated.

Extending solidarity with the victim and their family, the Union asserted that it will continue to monitor the situation closely and take all necessary steps to ensure that the rights of the victim and their family are protected. “The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) will continue to advocate for the rights and safety of students ensuring that such incidents are prevented in future and will hold accountable anyone who fails to act,” it added.
