Lotha Eloe Hoho condemns misuse of Lotha attire by Influencer Agou Hengoulal Sitlhou

The Lotha Eloe Hoho has condemned the recent irrelevant, misuse of Lotha community attire particularly male shawl ‘Phanrhup’ by Influencer Agou Hengoulal Sitlhou.

“Each Lotha Naga traditional attires and shawl has a meaningful and significance for its usage honouring the ancestors, which helps keep the culture alive relevant to a particular occasion and festivals,” stated the Hoho, adding that the traditional attires serves as a visual language, communicating history, social status and family ties, expression of heritage.

Condemning the misuse and wrong representation of the Lotha Naga men shawl as skirt / wraparound by Agou and the team, the organisation stated that the misrepresentation has has brought shame and insult to Lotha community.

“Therefore, we sternly warn the person who has misused the attire by wearing it inappropriately and its misuse by the team through reel viral video on instagram to immediately delete the reel in order not to falsely misrepresent the attire of Lothas in social media,” cautioned the Hoho.

Further, the Eloe Hoho has issued warning to any person whosoever in the future “misrepresenting or misuse and bringing disgrace without understanding and in-depth study and knowledge of the use of traditional attires shall not be tolerated but would be liable to stern action as per customary law of the land”.
