Lotha Hoho felicitates elected legislators from the tribe

Wokha: MLA Achumbemo Kikon express his willingness that four of them should unite in order to make a better society for Lothas in particular and Nagas in general

The Lotha Hoho organized a Lotha General Meeting cum Felicitation Program for the newly elected Lotha Members of 14th Legislative Assembly on Wednesday at Lotha Hoho Conference Hall, Wokha.

Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, MLA Y M Humtsoe, MLA Achumbemo Kikon, Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan and Advisor to Chief Minister Dr Chumben Murry attended the meeting.

Dr Murry, in his address, stressed on the four ongoing issues – oil exploration, urban local body polls, Registration of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) and the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978. He also encouraged the Hoho’s to take initiatives by coming together, conduct meetings in order to discuss the issues concerning the Lothas.

The advisor also said that in the recently concluded election, clean election was the talk of the town but was not followed. He therefore encouraged that in the next election, clean election should be given priority.

MLA Achumbemo Kikon express his willingness that four of them should unite in order to make a better society for Lothas in particular and Nagas in general. He also urged to make use of the Lotha Hoho platform which will play an important role to promote and preserve Lotha tradition, culture and also encourage to develop the habit of using Lotha Language.

MLA Y M Humtsoe opined that the Lothas are failing politically and socially and therefore in these five years under their leadership, all should come together with one mindset and work together as one.

He also urged that women should be given equal opportunity as men in every terms.

Agriculture Advisor, Mhathung Yanthan expressed that in order to bring changes all must change the way of thinking and have the zeal to work on it.  He spoke about school education, health, water as well as social evils like drugs which is an alarming ongoing issue in Wokha district.

He also stressed that women should be encouraged to participate in decision-making.

Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton also talked on the lifestyle of the Lothas and advised to preserve the traditions and culture of the tribe before it loses its identity. He also advocated for the conservation of birds and animals.

Earlier in the program, Chairman, Lotha Hoho, Er Mhondamo Ovung in his welcome address congratulated all the winning candidates and encouraged them to be united for the Lotha people. The program was chaired by Vice Chairman, Lotha Hoho S Mhonlumo Lotha.

The felicitation program was followed by the General Meeting with all the representatives, organizations from the villages and towns.
