The Lotha Hoho (LH) has issued a statement on June 12 clarifying that Chenirao Jami, a BJP candidate for the upcoming ULB elections in Wokha, was excommunicated, from the Lotha Community on the 9th July 2016, by the Lotha Hoho, for 15 (fifteen) years.

The LH Informed that Chenirao Jami Lotha, S/O Shri Yanasao Jami of Lio Longidang village, Wokha District, Nagaland, was ex-communicated due to his involvement “in the matter of Security threat to eliminate 25 (twenty five) Lotha intellectuals,        by the NSCN IM,”.

“He is therefore officially not a bonafide Lotha Naga, and is therefore not eligible to hold any post, of responsibility, as a Lotha Naga, unless he successfully completes the stipulated period of ex communication. The reasons and the circumstances leading to his excommunication is documented in the Lotha Hoho Report of November 2014 to January 2019, vide pages 322 to 324. It is now confirmed that the said Chenirao Jami has been allotted a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket for contesting in the Nagaland ULB Elections 2024 at Bhandari town from Ward No.3, vide BJP Official Notification dated 8th June 2024,” stated the Lotha Hoho.

As the apex and statutory Lotha Tribal organization, the LH asserted that, the excommunication is legally binding, under the provisions of Article 371A. In this regard, the LH has written to the Addl. Deputy Commissioner, Bhandari, requesting him not to entertain the nomination of Chenirao Jami, dated 5th June 2024, with endorsements to Chenirao Jami & the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha,

“The matter is therefore brought to the knowledge of all concerned that as per the terms and conditions of the Excommunication Memo of Lotha Hoho, the defiance of the LH Excommunication will entail a further excommunication of the concerned Chenirao Jami and now including his family for three consecutive future generations. Hence to keep its sanctity the Lotha Hoho, will have no other option; but to implement its Memo, which will include its withdrawal of LH co operation/support  from the Bharatiya Janata Party, unless the Party withdraws the candidature of Chenirao Jami,” stated the Lotha Hoho.

Basing on the earlier LH Memo of excommunication, the Lotha Hoho has provided the option to Chenirao Jami and the BJP to consider their option to either comply with the LH terms of excommunication of 9th July 2016, or otherwise. “The follow up action of the Lotha Hoho will be dependent on the options exercised by the Bharatiya Janata Party and Chenirao Jami Lotha,” it cautioned.
