The Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) has highlighted the shortage of teaching faculties in Mount Tiyi College and Government Higher Secondary School Wokha in separate letters of representation submitted to the Director of Higher Education and the Commissioner & Secretary of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland on 4 August 2023.
On Mount Tiyi College, the only government college in Wokha, LSU pointed out that there were only three lecturers in the Economics Department and that with the introduction of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), “more workforces is required for the well functioning of the college as well as provide quality education.”
There are over 300 students currently enrolled in the college, the union informed informed.

The Lotha Students’ Union had earlier on 23 May 2023, submitted another representation to the Commissioner & Secretary of Higher Education appealing for the revoking of attachment of two Assistant Professors to another college. It had mentioned in that letter that Mount Tiyi College was already facing shortage of lecturers and “cannot afford transfer /attachment of lectures” as it will affect the education of the students as well as impacting the commendable results achieved by the college thus far.
On GHSS Wokha, LSU said that the school is awaiting relievers against its Mathematics and Science (Zoology and Biology) teachers who were transferred via a notification dated 21 July 2022.
The union stressed that GHSS Wokha Town being located in the heart of Wokha District where students from all corners of the district is pursuing their education as well as enrolment has also increased in the present academic session but the transfers and redeployment will directly hamper the daily routine and negatively impacts the learning outcome of the students.
Further, the LSU appealed to the concern authorities to look into the genuine demand of the union to avoid further confrontation and agitations for greater interest and welfare of the student’s community so as to promote the education sector in the state.
