The Longwa Students’ Union (LSU) has expressed disappointment over allotment of contract work to a duo namely Ronika and Amos Ezung by the Development Authority of Nagaland (DAN), who have alleged been involved in a physical assault case of three minors belonging to Longwa village, under Mon district registered in October 2022 in Dimapur and the case is pending in the court.

“It was only when the parents and relatives of the minors forcibly intervened: the dark story of the duo came to light. In this regard, a case was registered against them and they were kept in Police custody. But in December 2022. the District Court released them on bail. However, the case against them is still in the Court and the next hearing is scheduled in the month of July, 2023,” stated a press release from the union’s president Jeilei Konyak and assistant general secretary Manom Taiwangshu.

The union said that despite the criminal charge against them, they were allotted contract works for beautification of Dimapur city and to build Acupressure Park in Super Market area.

It questioned “how can we, the Naga people expect such people with cruel intentions to do something good the community even if it is in the form of a development initiative?”

“We are of the opinion that the two accused should be in the close watch of the law enforcing authority and should not be entitled to such contract works until justice is delivered to the victims,” the union added.

Calling for justice, the student body said that the heinous act they meted out to the children can never be forgotten and demanded justice at all cost.

“Therefore, we appeal the concerned development authority to withdraw the contract work allotted to the duo, at the earliest,” Longwa Students’ Union said.
