The Department of History and Political Science at M.G.M College marked the 78th Indian Independence Day with an inter-departmental program held at the College Auditorium. The event, which took place on August 15, was a vibrant celebration of India’s rich history and the sacrifices made for the nation’s freedom, informed a press release by the college.
The program commenced with an invocation by Luthokhi from the 5th Semester, while Rangwamzoing, also from the 5th Semester, hosted the event. The welcome address was delivered by Fuchumo Yanthan, Head of the Department of History, who highlighted the significance of remembering our past and the heroes who fought for India’s independence.
A song competition featuring renditions of the National Anthem was organized. A key highlight of the event was a speech on the importance of Independence Day delivered by Peter Paoginpu, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science.

“His words resonated with the audience, reminding them of the enduring relevance of the values that underpin our nation,” said the press release. Lamleba and Tiahanla from the 3rd Semester performed a spirited dance, celebrating the nation’s cultural diversity and the joy of freedom.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Sungjemlila Jamir, Head of the Department of Political Science, who expressed gratitude to all participants and organizers for their contributions to the event’s success. The event came to a close with a benediction by Mercy from the 5th Semester.
