In a vibrant and emotionally charged evening at Chümoukedima, Nagaland, Maharashtra rose to glory as champions of the Dr Talimeren Ao Junior Girls’ National Football Championship 2025–26 (Tier 2), delivering a commanding 4–1 victory over Uttar Pradesh in a finale that showcased brilliance, discipline, and sheer attacking authority.
From the opening whistle, the match unfolded with intense energy. Uttar Pradesh, known for their direct attacking play, pressed aggressively and created a series of early threats, eventually registering an impressive ten shots on target over the ninety minutes. Yet it was Maharashtra who struck first, capitalizing on their first clear opening of the match when Aysha, showing excellent composure inside the box, slotted home the opening goal in the 15th minute.
Uttar Pradesh responded with conviction, equalizing through Divya in the 25th minute after sustained pressure that momentarily unsettled the Maharashtra backline. With both teams trading momentum, the first half closed with a sense of anticipation, setting the stage for a gripping second act.
The second half, however, belonged unmistakably to Maharashtra. With superior ball retention reflected in their 54% possession, they reorganized their structure, strengthened their transitions, and began dictating the game’s tempo. Uttar Pradesh continued to push numbers forward, but their intent often turned into frustration as they were caught offside six times, a testament to Maharashtra’s disciplined defensive line.
As the clock ticked down, Maharashtra’s dominance grew increasingly evident. The artistry and intelligence of Sharvari shone through in the 83rd minute. With remarkable poise, she produced a decisive third goal that deflated Uttar Pradesh’s resistance. Just four minutes later, Ipshita added the finishing touch with a sharp strike in the 87th minute, sealing a triumphant 4–1 win and completing Maharashtra’s emphatic flourish in the dying stages of the match.

Despite the final scoreline, Uttar Pradesh’s spirited performance was far from overshadowed. They recorded more shots on target than Maharashtra—ten against seven—and repeatedly tested the resilience of goalkeeper Shivika Shetty, whose outstanding form throughout the tournament earned her the prestigious Golden Glove. Maharashtra’s defensive solidity, coupled with moments of attacking brilliance, ultimately proved decisive in the title showdown.
Beyond the finalists, the championship celebrated individual excellence from across the country. Punjab’s rising star Joya claimed the Golden Boot, her consistent goal-scoring prowess distinguishing her as one of the tournament’s most exciting offensive talents. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s own Sharvari illuminated the tournament with her elegant attacking mastery, deservedly lifting the Golden Ball for her influential performances and remarkable goal tally.
