Mahila Jan Sunwai held in Mokokchung to address women’s grievances

A Mahila Jan Sunwai (Public Hearing) aimed at providing a platform for women to raise grievances and seek assistance was held at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Mokokchung, on March 10.
The programme was organised by the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) in collaboration with the District Administration, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), and Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, under the aegis of the National Commission for Women.

The public hearing session was chaired by NSCW chairperson W. Nginyeih Konyak, during which women from different parts of the district presented their grievances and concerns before the Commission. The Commission assured that the cases and issues raised during the session would be examined and that necessary steps would be taken to ensure timely support and justice for those affected.
Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, delivering the keynote address, stressed the importance of collective efforts among government departments, civil society organisations and community leaders to ensure the safety, dignity and empowerment of women. He also reiterated the commitment of the district administration to strengthen support mechanisms and facilitate access to justice and welfare services for women.
Earlier, District Mission Coordinator of Mission Shakti, Moamenla Longkumer, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the importance of the Mahila Jan Sunwai as a platform where women can voice their concerns and seek appropriate assistance.

A PowerPoint presentation was also delivered by Wangshinaro, Centre Administrator of Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, outlining the range of services available to women affected by violence. These include legal aid, medical assistance, psychosocial counselling and temporary shelter. The presentation further highlighted the Centre’s role in coordinating support through various government departments and stakeholders.

The programme began with a prayer by Nukshinaro, Gender Specialist, invoking blessings for the successful conduct of the event.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by M. Ajungla Longchar, Case Worker at Sakhi One Stop Centre, Mokokchung, who expressed appreciation to the dignitaries, officials, participants and organising teams for their cooperation in making the programme successful.

The Mahila Jan Sunwai serves as a platform to strengthen mechanisms for addressing issues related to women and to promote awareness about the support services available for their welfare and protection in the district.
