Malaria is not just health issue but social issue, says Ngipnon of Edith Douglas School Mon

Mon: Chula from Aboi and Ephong from Changlang village declared best performing ASHAs of 2024

As Mon District observed World Malaria Day on Thursday at Town Council Hall, speaking on the theme “Accelerating the Fight Against Malaria for a More Equitable World”, Ngipnon from Edith Douglas School, Mon said that Malaria is not just a health issue but a social issue.

Ngipnon stated that malaria perpetuates and exacerbates existing inequalities, trapping communities in a cycle of poverty, inequality and lack of access to essential services. Solidarity and collaboration are key in the fight against malaria as it cannot be won by a single entity, she added.

Also speaking at the event, ADC, Mon, K. Temjennaro Longkumer, appreciating the concerned department for their dedication and efforts and stressed on sanitization as very important for eliminating such vector borne diseases. She also exhorted the gathering to spread awareness on the disease and work hard with big heart for better impact in our society.

While delivering the welcome Address, Dr. Imnapokim, Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Mon appreciated the Staffs of Malaria department for their efforts. He informed that since last (3) three years Mon district has nil reports on Malaria and encouraged to be more responsible and to have good surveillance. He also informed that almost all the Community Health Centre, Mon district have Blood Collection facilities.

Dr Abenthung Murry, District Vector Borne Officer (DVBO), Mon, acknowledged the top two performing ASHAs and Surveillance Workers.

Chula from Aboi under Aboi block and Ephong from Changlang village under Aboi block were declared the best performing ASHAs of 2024, and while PS Chong from Tizit Block and L Mongnyei Konyak from Mon Sadar were declared the best performing Surveillance Worker of 2024 respectively.

The programme was chaired by Manjai Konyak, MTS and vote of thanks was delivered by Manpong SI.
