In an unfortunate incident in Kohima on March 23 , a 35 year old man identified as Ajay Daimary was shot dead during a scuffle that broke out among three acquaintances on March 23 at approximately 11:00 pm. The incident happened at the outskirts of Kohima around half kilometer away from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyala, Kohima.

According to Additional SP & PRO Kohima Soriso Quinker, the accused Medoselhou and victim Ajay belonging to Kachari tribe were together at a farmhouse when a tussle broke out between them. During the altercation, Medoselhou , under the influence of alcohol,  mistakenly discharged his muzzle-loading gun, fatelly injuring and killing Ajay on the spot. The accused’s brother is reported to have brought him to the North police station on March 24 where he surrendered himself, following which a case has been registered bide Kohima (N) PS C: No 15 U/S 103(1) BNS  2023 R/W 25(1B)(a) Arms act. The investigation is currently underway to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the incident .

Rupa, wife of the deceased disclosed that, during the intervening night, along with Lt Ajay and Medoselhou there was another acquaintance, a 48 year old Nepali who was absconding after the incident. Rupa further informed that the absconding person was living with them for the last three months and working alongside Lt Ajay. Ajay’s death body was discovered by his wife outside their room at around 5:30 am.

The deceased’s mother and brother urged concerned authorities to investigate into the matter and bring justice. The family of the deceased demanded that the culprit should be held responsible and also should compensate for the future of the kids and wife. Late Ajay was living with his wife along with three kids and was looking after a farm house.

According to reports the muzzle loading gun used during the incident is also in the custody of police. Further investigations are underway. Follow post mortem, the mortal remains of Ajay was laid to rest at BSF Cemetery.
