Man impersonating Assam Police Inspector caught with illegal liquor in Nagaland

An individual impersonating a police officer was apprehended in the early hours of July 15 after he was found possessing illegal liquor at the Watiyongpang check gate in Mokokchung district.

According to a press release issued by the Office of the Superintendent of Police, Mokokchung, a white

Indica vehicle (AS 03 H 9220) with the word “POLICE” displayed on its windshield was intercepted at around 12:30 a.m. Upon inspection, a substantial quantity of illegal IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) was found concealed inside the vehicle. The seized items included two cases of MC Rum (750ml); 12 cases of MC Rum (180ml); one case of AC Black Whiskey (180ml) and four cases of Kingfisher Beer.

The driver, identified as Dipankar Gogoi, son of Surya Gogoi of Hati Muria Gaong village under Sivsagar

District, Assam, was taken into custody. Gogoi, who serves as a driver in the Fire Emergency Service,

Assam HQ, Panbazar, was reportedly wearing a police uniform and impersonating as an inspector from

Assam Police at the time of arrest.

Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS/MV Act and the NLTP Act, and further investigation is underway.
