Man sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment for culpable homicide at Jotsoma village

Raju Rao, an accused involved in the culpable homicide of 37 years old Ninaju Raj Bangshi at Jotsoma village has been sentenced to four years rigorous imprisonment.

The Court of Mezivolu T. Therieh NJS, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kohima, through an order on January 23, convicted the accused Raju Rao, 39, U/S 304 Part II of the Indian Penal Code for committing culpable homicide of deceased Ninaju Raj Bangshi at Jotsoma Village in the year 2021.

A press release issued by Additional Public Prosecutor, Kohima Abraham, informed on the sentenced awarded which include rigorous imprisonment for four years and a fine of Rs. 5000.  In default of payment of fine to undergo, the accused will undergo simple imprisonment for one year for the offence punishable under Section 304 Part II IPC.

The investigation was conducted by UBSI Tsalamo Odyou, Sechu Zubza PS, Kohima. During the trial, six prosecution witnesses were examined, and the State, represented by L.Sashimongla Jamir, Spl. Public Prosecutor successfully established the guilt of the accused beyond reasonable doubt.

After considering the oral, medical and documentary evidence, the Court found the accused guilty under Section 304 part II IPC.

The press release stated that the conviction is a result of coordinated efforts between the police, Prosecution, and witnesses and thereby also thanked the investigating agency for their effective work.
