Mangmetong Village Council served Show Cause Notice for MCC violation in 28 Koridang by-election

The Office of the Deputy Commissioner & District Election Officer, Mokokchung, Nagaland has issued a show cause notice to Mangmetong village council for alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the ongoing by-election to the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency.

According to the notice dated March 31, 2026, it was reported and prima facie established that the individual, a government-approved village council member, was actively engaged in election campaigning at Khensa Village on March 28, 2026, in favour of a particular political party.

The notice stated that such conduct is in violation of the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct, the Representation of the People Act, 1951, and Section 15 of the Nagaland Village Council Act, along with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, which mandate strict neutrality of government-appointed functionaries during elections.

It further stated that village functionaries approved by the government are required to maintain political neutrality and are prohibited from participating in political activities or showing undue favour to any candidate or political party.

The individual has been directed to submit a reply within 48 hours from the receipt of the notice, explaining why disciplinary action should not be initiated.

The notice added that failure to respond within the stipulated time will lead to the presumption that no explanation is offered, and appropriate action will be initiated as per relevant provisions of law.

The notice was issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer (Civil) and Returning Officer for the 28AC Koridang (ST) By-Election. It also mentioned that the action was based on a complaint submitted by candidate Imchatoba Imchen.
