Security personnel and suspected Kuki militants were engaged in firing, Manipur’s security advisor Kuldeep Singh told media persons on Wednesday. In the encounter, one Assam Rifles personnel sustained bullet injuries in his abdomen that took place near Utonglok area in Manipur’s Imphal East district, he added.
Singh further said that the Assam Rifles and Manipur Police have begun inspecting Suspension of Operation (SoO) camps and number of arms are being counted. The exercise is underway and stationing of the SoO cadres in their designated camps is also monitored, he informed.

Further, Singh said that 66 people have died within the time period of violence. Of these, 41 were killed in the violence while the remaining others died due to other causes, he added.
The security advisor maintained that Manipur is limping back to normalcy and curfew relaxation hours have been increased and so far, 284 arms and 6,700 ammunition have been recovered. Meanwhile, trucks stranded at Mao gate have also started coming in, he said.
