Kakching: AR Internal Security column rescues stranded students and staff from violence in Kakching district

Forty-five visually impaired students and supporting staff of Mission Blind School in Manipur, who were rescued by the Assam Rifles on 3 May 2023 amidst the ethnic clash in the State were reunited with their families on Saturday.

PRO informed that upon getting a request from K Parenag Kom, the Principal of the school, which is in Pallel, Kakching district, one Internal Security column was launched to rescue the stranded students and staff. They were safely extricated and escorted to Kakching garrison where they were provided solace, food and shelter, it stated. Assam Rifles then coordinated with the families of the children and returned them back safely to their homes through dedicated columns on 13 May.

The security forces’ humane act was acknowledged with gratitude by the reunited families.

Assam Rifles and the Indian Army have been instrumental in evacuating over 20,000 innocent people to safety during the violence in Manipur that started on 3 May. Many people who have been affected by the clash have testified that security forces have been “a ray of hope” and “assuring comfort” to the helpless in the time of distress.
