The Maralui Karalimei Swijoikang or Maram Students Union (MKS) presented Maram Naga war dance at Samvaad 2022 at Jamshedpur on 16 November organised by TATA Steel Foundation.
Samvaad, since 2014, has emerged as an ecosystem for tribal identity which brings together tribes of India and beyond for constructive dialogue, enables key elements of tribal identity to thrive and be fed into this dialogue and fosters an international peer group which drives positive change.
Just like the other years, Samvaad invited performances from tribal/indigenous communities from around the world reflecting their rich culture and heritage including the Maram Naga traditional dance that was performed on 16 November at Gopal Maidan, Jamshedpur.
The ninth edition of Samvaad is focused on rekindling person-to-person connection while continuing to keep the digital learning intact.
Over the last one year, Samvaad has been reaching out to tribal communities across the country through various elements of Samvaad including the Tribal Leadership Programme, Rhythms of the Earth residency and Weavers’ Residency. The journey continues through the Regional Samvaad that was held in over eight destinations across the country and 20 locations in Jharkhand.
The Samvaad conclave that commenced on 15 November and will continue till 19 November is aimed at engaging with various tribes on language, literature, art and culture, sports, tribal cuisine, films and action research and also to encourage sharing of experiences, celebration of their cultural similarities, uniqueness and wisdom to the outside world.
Samvaad has reportedly already brought together more than 30,000 women, men and children from 157 tribes across 25 states and 5 union territories of India and 17 other countries in an impartial contemplation of the tribal development narrative, balanced with an unstinted celebration of tribal culture, wisdom and way of life.
Samvaad 2022 aims to take the conversations a step further which will be pivoted around cultural renditions, cuisine, research, artisans, tribal medicinal practices, film screenings, and dialogue.
Tata Steel Foundation reportedly bore the booking of the to-and-fro train tickets to Jamshedpur, accommodation and food arrangements at Jamshedpur including DA per day at Jamshedpur per participant.
