With the turnout of 130 young participants, a two-week-long Free Martial Arts Summer Coaching Camp and Tournament organized by the Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association (MDMAA) got underway on June 23 at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung. The two-week camp, open to all individuals aged 5 years and above, will run until July 5, offering hands-on training in six martial arts disciplines: Kung Fu, Wushu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Judo.
The camp is led by a team of experienced instructors, including Imyuangdang Leo (Karate), Toshimeren (Kung Fu), Metlesh (Muay Thai) and Bendangakum – 4th DAN, NKMAA (Wushu and Judo).
As the sessions commenced, instructors emphasized the importance of discipline and punctuality in martial arts. Campers began with foundational fitness routines before moving into technique-based training, with coaches assuring that all six disciplines—Kung Fu, Wushu, Karate, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Judo—will be taught from the basics up to more advanced levels.

The organizers expressed immense satisfaction at the enthusiastic response from parents and children.
“We are overwhelmed by the interest shown. Registrations are still pouring in, and we don’t want any child to miss out,” the organizers shared, announcing that registration will remain open through the first week of the camp to accommodate more learners.
The Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association (MDMAA) has announced that it will be organizing the All Nagaland Martial Arts Open Championship in December 2025. The tournament will be open to practitioners from all martial arts disciplines across the state and is envisioned as a landmark event to promote and instil martial arts among the youth.
To prepare participants for this major championship, regular training classes will continue beyond the summer camp, ensuring sustained engagement and development. “We are not stopping with this camp,” said Camp Director Bendangakum.
“Our aim is long-term—we want to equip interested students to grow and compete at higher levels,” said Rongsentoshi Jamir, President of MDMAA.
“The camp is not only aimed at building sporting skills but also seeks to promote health and self-defence across all age groups, which is why it is open to anyone aged 5 and above. While adults can benefit from the fitness and discipline aspects, the initiative particularly aims to encourage children to explore martial arts as a potential career in sports. Those who show interest and dedication will be guided further to help them grow in the field,” he added.
The closing ceremony, scheduled for July 5, will be graced by Imkumniba Kichu, In-Charge of Games and Sports, Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), as the chief guest.
