In a case of unfortunate incident, a 25-year-old student, Rendemo Odyuo, a resident of Midland, Kohima was swept away at Dzüvürü Stream in Kohima on 27th June 2024.
The incident is reported to have occurred around 4:00 pm however, the information was relayed to the authorities only on 28 June.
Following this, authorities have launched a massive search operation involving State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Nagaland GIS and Police Department under the aegis of District Disaster Management Authority, Kohima, village councils and local villagers. The search and rescue operation of Odyuo began on 29 June morning from the incident site till Gariphema Basa.
Today marks the third day of the search operation however, there is still no trace of the missing body.
The search and rescue mission was also being hampered by incessant rainfall in the area. Raft search and drone surveys have been halted for the time being, informed an officer from the NSDMA.
The search operation has been called off for today and will resume tomorrow morning.
Meanwhile, the Kohima Yikhum Union has appealed to all the local inhabitants of the villages/residents along the Dzüvürü-Dzüü-Doyang river falling within the Districts of Kohima, Zunheboto and Wokha to contact the following numbers for any information on Rendemo Odyuo.
