The Mokokchung District Truck Owners Association (MDTOA), along with officials from the National
Highways Department, conducted a joint inspection of the deteriorating stretches along National
Highway 702D (Mokokchung–Mariani road) on July 22.
The inspection team included the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), two Junior Engineers, and local contractors. They assessed several critical points along the route that require urgent repair due to damage caused by continuous rainfall, landslides, and road sinking.
During the inspection, MDTOA members highlighted key portions of the highway that have become nearly unmotorable, posing risks to commuters and heavy vehicles. The Association urged the department and contractors to expedite repair works, particularly in the most affected areas.
The officials and contractors assured the delegation that necessary repairs would be initiated at the earliest.

MDTOA also called on the department to engage with the landowners and explore possibilities for road widening in vulnerable zones to prevent future damage and accidents.
MDTOA President, Sangyu Kichu appreciated the ongoing efforts of the National Highways staff, who continue to work even in the harsh monsoon conditions to clear landslides and restore connectivity.
Kichu expressed optimism that with sincere cooperation between the department, contractors, and the local communities, the long-standing aspirations of the people for a safe and reliable road will soon be fulfilled.
He reiterated MDTOA’s commitment to supporting all road development efforts that would improve the movement of goods and ensure economic progress in the region.
