The Medziphema Administration has initiated a community-wide plastic waste collection drive on 1st June, 2024 to commemorate World Environment Day that is observed on 5th June, 2024, in Medziphema under Chumoukedima district informed DIPR.
In alignment with the theme of World Environment Day 2024, “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience” the administration aimed to reduce plastic pollution and promote recycling within the community during the course of the drive.
All the offices both state and central, institutions, houses, commercial establishments and Medziphema Town Trade Union have participated in this initiative taken by the administration.

All plastic waste from houses, offices, markets and surroundings were collected and were further segregated into different categories. After plastic waste was gathered at the designated collection point, the waste management team collected the accumulated plastic waste in a toxic waste site at plastic waste management unit Medziphema Block constructed under SBM (G) 2022-2023 by the PHED department.
The drive ended with active participation from all public and government institutions.
