The newly elected members of Kohima Municipal Council took their oath of affirmation today here at Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
The oath of affirmation was administered by Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS.
Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse congratulating the newly elected councillors said, it is a historic day as it was with much hurdle the state government was able pass the Municipal Act and successfully conducted the ULB Elections in the state after two decades under the abled leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio with 33 percent Reservation for Women.
Acknowledging that the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) is in its nascent and transitional stage, Kruse said the Councillors of Kohima Municipal Council have a great responsibility ahead of them and they are expected to be the bridge between the community and the Council.
“As Councilors you are expected to observe and follow basic and general principles. You are expected to work with integrity and vision. A vision for you ward and a vision for Kohima. And a vision to set Kohima as a model municipal council,” she added.
Kruse also stated that the elected councillors should ensure of providing services and facilities in a fair and sustainable way and also planning at the local level for the development and future needs of the area.
Further, she assured the councillors that the government shall also extend all possible assistance to develop and uplift the people and municipality.
A total of 19 members took the oath of affirmation out of which seven were women.
