The Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (Mokokchung Town Youth Organization), today, conveyed its condolences for the victims of the tragic motor incident that occurred on September 20 in K. Station or Kandinu village (Tseminyu), Nagaland, claiming eight precious lives.

While lamenting the loss of eight young lives, the MTLT has strongly appealed to the Nagaland Transport Department and its nodal agencies to seriously take note of the rising number of accident cases in the state, which are claiming many lives and leaving many families in a state of utter loss. The MTLT suggested that the concerned department initiate thorough brainstorming sessions involving all stakeholders to work out a viable solution.

“Words are insufficient to express their sorrow, and the feeling of loss is accentuated by the fact that all the victims were in the prime of their youth; some of them had recently cleared competitive exams and were about to join their service. It is indeed a great loss for Naga society, it stated,” expressed the MTLT.

The organization also expressed its gratitude for the support from different quarters during and after the tragedy, including the prompt action of the Nagaland Police in Tseminyu and Wokha, the SDRF personnel, and all the civil society organizations that rendered help. “Recovering the victims crushed by the sand-laden truck was a challenging task, but after many grueling hours of collective efforts, the bodies could ultimately be retrieved, bringing a sense of closure to everyone,” stated the MTLT.

The MTLT further acknowledged the Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio for announcing ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the victims’ families and, Home Minister Y. Patton for ordering a thorough investigation into the incident.

“In this regard, the MTLT is willing to offer its support, both intellectually and logistically, if the concerned government agencies should require assistance to ensure safer streets and highways,” assured the MTLT.
