The Mezomia Mechü Kehou (Mezomia Citizens Forum) has condemned the alleged assault of its President, K Lawrence Miasalhou, who is also the Political Assistant to Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, on 18th May, that led to his death on Sunday.
According to Mezoma Mechü Kehou, the incident took place at Phoolbari Bus/Taxi stand around 4:40 pm on 18th May 2024 when the accused, Neizosetuo Kire and Khrietsonyü Whuorie, both from Kohima Village, “resorted to hitting K Lawrence Misasalhou over no issue”. The Forum also stated that the deceased’s son, Thejavizo B Miasalhou “was also assaulted when he went to save his father from the aforementioned persons.”
“As a result of his injury, he was taken to Oking Hospital, Kohima and succumbed to death around 3:00 AM on the 19th May,” informed Mhiesibeizo Vikhrie, Vice President and Khrisakuolie Khawakhrie, Joint Secretary.
Stating that the deceased is “an upright person”, the Mezomia Mechü Kehou said “taking away his life can never be compromised nor accepted.”
“We fervently condemn the crime committed by the two youths at their prime age upon an elderly and respected member of the society at large and the union in particular,” it further said.
The Forum has urged the law enforcing agencies “to immediately take up the matter and punish the culprits under all relevant laws of the land”. It has also warned against granting bail to the accused “at any cost”.
“The Mezomia citizens have lost one of its finest leaders and we pray that his innocent soul rests in eternal peace,” the Mezomia Mechü Kehou said asserting that it will fight until justice is delivered.
