An awareness programme on Blood Donation, Cancer, and HIV/AIDS was successfully organised by the Red Ribbon Club (RRC) of MGM College, Dimapur on November 1, aimed to sensitise students on crucial health issues while fostering empathy, responsible citizenship, and proactive engagement in community health initiatives.

The programme was chaired byKulongoi Tetseo, Head of the Department of Economics. It began with an invocation by Ahikali I Jakha, Head of the Department of English, invoking blessings for a meaningful and fruitful session. This was followed by a welcome address by Fr Giju George, Administrator of the college, who warmly greeted the gathering and emphasized the importance of awareness and preventive education in shaping a healthy, informed, and compassionate society.

The college hosted two eminent resource persons — Dr Nito Yeptho, Head, Department of Transfusion Medicine and Blood Centre Officer, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), and Bendangtemsula, Counselor at CIHSR. Both delivered highly engaging and informative sessions on the importance of blood donation, cancer prevention, and HIV/AIDS awareness.

Dr Yeptho’s presentation offered a scientific and practical understanding of the life-saving value of blood donation, underscoring that blood cannot be manufactured — it can only come from generous donors. He addressed prevalent myths and stressed the urgent need for regular voluntary donors to sustain healthcare systems and save lives.

Bendangtemsula complemented this with a compassionate perspective on health counseling, shedding light on the psychosocial challenges faced by individuals living with HIV/AIDS, and the importance of empathy and community support in their care. Their talks effectively blended medical insights with human empathy, inspiring students to view health awareness not merely as knowledge but as a moral and social responsibility. The interactive and evidence-based approach of both speakers left a profound impact, motivating students to take proactive steps toward fostering a healthier and more informed society.

An engaging interactive Q&A session, moderated by Fuchamo Yanthan, Nodal Officer, RRC, allowed students to raise pertinent questions and participate in meaningful dialogue with the resource persons. The lively exchange of ideas made the session both educational and inspiring. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Lopilo P Yanthan, RRC Convenor, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the resource persons, the chairman, faculty members, and all participants for their contributions to the success of the programme.
