MGM College organizes creative writing workshop

The Department of English, MGM College, successfully organised a one-day Creative Writing Workshop on October 4 on the highly insightful and contemporary theme, “Writing for Therapy.” The event sought to introduce students to the therapeutic dimension of creative writing—emphasizing its role as a medium for emotional healing, self-discovery, and mental well-being.

The workshop was conducted by Otoli V Yeptho, a distinguished educator and academician, whose expertise and empathetic approach captivated the participants. Her session masterfully blended theory and practice, providing a safe and stimulating space for creative exploration.

The session covered several vital aspects of expressive writing.  The students enthusiastically took part in the hands-on exercises, including worksheet-based tasks, Haiku composition, and Limerick writing. Toward the end, each participant received a reflective writing sheet to compose a personal letter to themselves—an exercise designed to deepen self-awareness and emotional clarity.

The workshop received overwhelmingly positive feedback. Participants described the experience as “refreshing,” “enlightening,” and “emotionally empowering,” appreciating how it expanded their understanding of writing beyond conventional academics. The event not only achieved its objective of highlighting the holistic benefits of creative expression, but also reaffirmed the Department of English’s commitment to fostering innovative and student-centered learning experiences at MGM College.

Business Plan Competition

Meanwhile, the Departments of Commerce and Economics of MGM College organised a Business Plan Competition on October 4 with the aim of fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking among students. The event, held in the college witnessed enthusiastic participation from seven departments, featuring fourteen participants who presented their unique and thought-provoking business ideas.

Each team showcased innovative proposals addressing real-world challenges through creative solutions — ranging from eco-friendly ventures and digital innovations to social entrepreneurship initiatives. The competition tested students’ skills in market analysis, financial planning, strategic execution, and presentation abilities, reflecting their readiness to navigate the dynamic business landscape.

A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the presentations based on feasibility, originality, market potential, and clarity of presentation. After a rigorous assessment, the Department of Education emerged as the winner, earning accolades for their outstanding business proposal and well-structured execution plan.

The event concluded with words of encouragement from faculty members who emphasized the importance of entrepreneurial learning in higher education. The Business Plan Competition was a resounding success, reaffirming MGM College’s commitment to nurturing future business leaders and innovators equipped to transform ideas into impactful enterprises.
