The 46th edition of the Evergreen Open Volleyball Trophy 2022 organised by the Evergreen Club, Ungma village which featured 13 teams was lifted by MH-10, Nagaland at Soyim Aonglenden, Ungma, on 17 December.
Shashank Pratap Singh IAS, DC Mokokchung graced the closing ceremony as the Guest of Honour.
The DC, while delivering his speech, said sports used to be considered as an extra co-curricular activity before and now the view has changed, with sports seen as a career option for young people.
He reflected upon the district’s performance at the recently concluded Nagaland Olympic and Paralympic Games and said results were not as expected. But he strongly believes that the district could do much better in the field of sports.
Singh also appealed parents to support their children if they were interested to prosper in sports and not to force academic degrees.
He highlighted that sporting avenues are underway with the central and state governments making efforts and creating opportunities in the field for coaches, referees where one could build a good profession.
“If you are interested in any field of sports, try to mould it into your career,” he asserted.
“Through sports, team spirit is built,” Singh said and added that the district has great potential in producing young sportspersons.
He asserted that sports could make way in building a society and also assured to give his full support in the field of sports if needed.

Onentiba Jamir, Tatar, Ungma Village Council in his exhortation expressed gratitude to the EGC for organising such a great tournament.
He encouraged the club to continue organising such events and hoped that such events will mould and produce skilful youngsters at the state and national level in the immediate future.
The final match was played between MH-10 Nagaland and Longtrok Senden, Ungma.
With the strike at 7pm in the evening of 17 December, the volleyball court at Soyim Aonglenden saw the two team players ready to display their skills and passion. The energy displayed by players of both teams was remarkable.
Every hit of the ball, was backed by applause from the roaring crowd. The tournament witnessed a packed audience from in and around the district.
MH-10 Nagaland beat Longtrok Senden, Ungma with a scoreline of 25/20, 24/26, 25/12, 25/13 played in the best of five.
MH-10, Nagaland lifted the 46th EGC Open Volleyball Trophy 2022 and received citations and a monetary prize of Rs 60,000 while the runner up, LSU received citations and a cash prize of Rs 40,000.
Earlier in the day, the two semi-final matches were played between Changtongya Volleyball Association and MH-10, Nagaland where MH- 10 won 16/25, 15/25, 11/25 and Longterok Senden Ungma (LSU) and Shipu, where LSU won 25/21, 25/20, 25/27 to enter the finals.
The tournament featured three individual winners. The Best Spiker was awarded to Ahika (6) of MH-10, Best Setter was awarded to Tongpangsunep (9) of MH-10 while Aketo (7) of LSU was awarded the Player of the Tournament.
All the individual winners received citations and a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each. The first and the second semi-finalist of the tournament were Shipu and CVA respectively.
The programme was chaired by Limasenla Jamir. Imtitoshi Lkr, Youth Director, UBA pronounced the invocation while the vote of thanks was delivered by Imotemsu Jamir, General Secretary, EGC.
