The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a cautionary advisory to all state governments, calling for heightened vigilance against potential communal unrest in the wake of recent military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran.
In a letter circulated on February 28, the MHA warned that escalating tensions in the Middle East could have “ripple effects” within India, particularly if international developments are invoked through inflammatory rhetoric during religious gatherings.
The advisory directs state authorities to closely monitor and identify “pro-Iran radical preachers giving inflammatory sermons” that could incite unrest or disturb communal harmony. It also emphasizes enhanced intelligence coordination and proactive preventive measures to avert any breakdown of law and order.
The Home Ministry’s alert comes amid a sharp escalation in West Asia following reported joint U.S.-Israel strikes on Iranian cities and military infrastructure, raising fears of a broader regional conflict. India has urged restraint from all sides and stressed the need to ensure the safety of its citizens abroad, especially those residing in Gulf countries.

Officials in New Delhi are closely tracking the situation, mindful not only of its geopolitical implications but also of the possibility that heightened emotions over global events could be exploited by extremist elements to trigger local tensions.
The advisory blends routine preparedness measures with a specific focus on monitoring speeches and sermons that could “aggravate communal sentiments” during this sensitive period.
Security analysts note that India’s diverse social fabric requires careful management during major international crises, as global flashpoints can sometimes resonate domestically and escalate quickly if not addressed in time.
