The inaugural programme of the Midland Community Building-cum-Car Parking under Ward 9, Kohima, was held on November 13 at the newly constructed facility.
Addressing the gathering, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse said the project symbolizes not just the construction of another building but “the creation of a space for progress, cooperation, and community development.”
Kruse observed that many colonies and wards in Kohima face serious challenges, including space constraints, infrastructure deficits, economic competition, environmental sanitation issues, limited land for development, and water shortages.
“Addressing these requires coordinated urban planning, infrastructure investment, and inclusive community engagement,” she emphasized.
She added that the completion and inauguration of the community hall stands as “a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in this locality.”
“We envisioned a space that would bring people together — a place to celebrate, unite, and foster the spirit of community. Coupled with the new car parking area, this facility addresses both social and practical needs, alleviating parking challenges and providing a safe, convenient area for residents and visitors alike,” she stated.
Kruse said the parking facility integrated into the hall serves as a model that other colonies should emulate, especially in colonies and wards of Kohima where random parking has caused inconvenience to citizens.
“The government has always believed that true development begins at the grassroots level, and projects like our Council Hall is a reflection of that vision,” she added, assuring continued government support for initiatives that improve citizens’ lives.
Expressing sincere gratitude to all who contributed to making the project possible — including land donors, the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), the contractor, local authorities, council members, and the community — she said, “Looking forward, I am confident that this hall will become the heart of numerous events, educational programs, and social gatherings that strengthen community bonds. It is a space belonging to all of us, and I encourage everyone to utilize it with pride and responsibility.”

She further noted that the success of the initiative depends on how well the facility is maintained and used. “May this hall and its amenities foster unity, promote cultural and social activities, and serve as a hub for growth and collaboration for many years to come,” she said and encouraged everyone to take pride in this achievement and actively participate in keeping this space vibrant and welcoming.
