The 50th Games & Sports Meet 2025 of the Mima Youth Organization (MYO) began today at Mima Village. The games and sports event will include athletic, groups and wrestling and will continue till January 17.
The meet began with the lighting of the Jubilee torch, oath taking, display of mascot, jubilee flags, contingent March, flag hoisting along with presentation of instrumental anthem. Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resources Development and Horticulture, Government of Nagaland spoke on the essence of culture as the core identity of a people. The need to inculcate one’s mother tongue was stressed by the Chief Guest, where she said, “Even if we learn to speak English today and forget our own mother tongue, people will not say we are Englishmen. Knowing our own mother tongue and language is a way to preserve our own culture and showcase our Naga identity at large.”
According to Kruse, preservation and practice of one’s traditions included preservation of customs, attires, dialects etc. While each tribe and regions and villages within a tribe may have slight variations, Kruse emphasized the need to be connected with all these customs and practices that are associated with one’s cultures and traditions.
