The 9th state level Mimkut Mini Hornbill Festival began on 16 January at the GMS ground in Molvom village under Medziphema Sub Division, Chümoukedima district.
The three-day festival, held under the theme ‘Unity Through Culture’, is organised by Kuki Inpi Nagaland and sponsored by Tourism Department, Govt of Nagaland, states a DIPR report.
The first day of the festival was graced by special guest Alun Hansing, Retd Commissioner and Secretary, Govt of Nagaland.
Hansing emphasised the importance of celebrating the Mimkut Festival and of exhibiting the ethnic culture through work that represents the people’s roots. He also wished for the Kuki community to carry peace and prosperity through their festival.
On the second day of the festival, Chief Secretary J Alam, IAS, was the special guest.
Alam expressed joy at being a part of the special festival and thanked the Kuki community for the grand welcome and felicitation.

Addressing the gathering, he said the Kuki tribe contributes to every development in Nagaland whether in farming, government, or other sectors. He lauded them for their hard work in contributing to the development of the state. He encouraged the community to continue working hard and emphasised on education which, he said, will develop not only the community but also help in developing Nagaland.
Thanking the Kuki community and the organisers, the chief secretary said festivals like Mimkut Mini Hornbill are very important for preserving and promoting Naga cultures.
Special invite ADC Medziphema Imsongmeren urged the Kuki Community to carry on their good approach towards unity and progress for a better future.
The second day of the Mimkut Mini Hornbill featured different activities such as traditional dances by different cultural troupes from Athibung, Inbung and Molvom; and songs from different bands like The Black Cheque RFG and from artists like Maxxy Minthang and Helamboi Baite.
The three-day long Mimkut Mini Hornbill festival will culminate on 18 January with events such as the night carnival, Miss Mimkut 2023, and a symposium on Kuki Custom & Culture. The special guest will be Keduosieu Metha, Director Tourism, Govt of Nagaland.
