Mission Shakti Awareness Programme on Women Empowerment Held in Shamator

An awareness session on Mission Shakti schemes under the Skills Acquisition and Knowledge Awareness on Livelihood Promotion (SANKALP) initiative was organised by the Department of Social Welfare Nagaland at Shiponger village in Shamator district on Wednesday.

During the session, gender specialists A. Henry and Yanhola elaborated on the key components of the Mission Shakti programme—Samarthya and Sambal—highlighting their role in promoting women’s safety, security and empowerment through various initiatives.

Kiukimshi, a case worker at the One Stop Centre (OSC), spoke on the functions of the centre and the services available for women in distress, including counselling, legal support and other forms of assistance.

Dr. Birila Brianna addressed the gathering on issues related to domestic violence, emphasising the legal rights and protections available to women. She underscored the importance of awareness in enabling women to seek help and stand up for their rights.

Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Kiukhimla, Women Director of SBC, followed by a welcome address from Thsangthong of the District Women Cell under District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), who highlighted the significance of creating awareness on welfare schemes aimed at empowering women at the grassroots level.
