Mission SOAR Nagaland and the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) held a one-day workshop on March 13 on the role of Artificial Intelligence in education and textbook innovation.

According to a press release issued by the NagaEd, the workshop was an opportunity to reflect on how innovation can be harnessed in the service of something deeply human: better teaching, stronger institutions, and richer learning experiences for every child. It brought together participants to explore how AI can support academic work, improve office productivity, and strengthen the development of quality learning materials in ways that are thoughtful, practical, and aligned with educational purpose.

The sessions introduced participants to real and emerging applications of AI in academic institutions. These included the use of AI in academia, tools for improving workplace efficiency, and ways in which AI can support syllabus design, textbook blueprinting, and textbook development. The day also featured a demonstration of Sakhee, a custom AI application developed by mission partner Shikha Institute to support the creation of high-quality textbooks aligned with the NCF and NEP. The programme concluded with a discussion on school leadership course structure and action steps for the way forward.

Mission SOAR Nagaland is a collaborative education transformation initiative led by the Department of School Education and supported by Elevate Foundation. At its heart, Mission SOAR is about building an education system in Nagaland that is agile, inclusive, and high-performing, one that is rooted in identity, responsive to change, and committed to helping every learner thrive.

Speaking on the significance of the workshop, Kevisato, Founder of NagaEd and Director of Elevate Foundation, said, “Artificial Intelligence is not a replacement for educators, vision, or human connection. Its real value lies in how it can strengthen the hands of those already working to build better schools and better futures. This workshop with SCERT was an opportunity to explore how AI can help us work more purposefully, create stronger learning resources, and support the larger transformation of education in Nagaland.”

“This workshop was meaningful because it helped us look at AI not as an abstract idea, but as a practical tool that can support our academic and institutional work. What is encouraging is the possibility of using these tools in ways that improve quality, strengthen processes, and ultimately serve the needs of learners more effectively”, said Daniel Thong Head of IE & ICT, SCERT.

Temjenmenla, Deputy Director, SCERT, added, “Through the use of AI, our quality of work can improve, and things can be done with better planning and support administration through better management and strategy. It was beneficial, especially in how we can use AI to frame lesson planning for the classroom.”

Karishma Shanghvi, Director of Shikha Institute and Mission SOAR Consotium Partner, said, “With Sakhee, our goal is to support the creation of high-quality curriculum material that is rigorous, relevant, and aligned with national frameworks because the students of Nagaland deserve the best. We believe technology can play a powerful role in this process when it is guided by sound pedagogy, a clear vision for learning, and sensitivity to context.”

The engagement reflects Mission SOAR’s belief that the future of education must be shaped not only by innovation, but by intention. In bringing together technology, pedagogy, and institutional strengthening, the workshop marked another step toward a future in which the children of Nagaland are supported by systems that are more creative, more capable, and more responsive to their aspirations, added the press release.
