Shukla told journalists in Aizawl that the state Police provided security to the Meiteis who wanted escort to the lone Lengpui airport near Aizawl as well as who went to Assam by road.

“We are providing round-the-clock security and vigil for the Meitei community members in several central institutions in the state,” he said, adding that there has been no Meitei approaching the Police department saying they receive threats from any quarters.

Police sources said that there were 1,508 Meiteis belonging to 416 families living in the state before some of them left Mizoram for Manipur and Assam which is triggered by the massive outrage due to the video of two ethnic Mizo women paraded naked, groped and gang-raped went viral.

Till Sunday, 520 Meiteis have left Mizoram, a senior Police official said.

Security personnel on duty at Lengpui airport said that there was no Aizawl-Imphal flight on Monday. However, 16 Meiteis left Aizawl by 3 flights – Aizawl to Guwahati, Aizawl to Kolkata and Aizawl to Shillong flights.
