Mobile medical unit launched in Kiphire district

A mobile medical unit (MMU) for Kiphire district, supported by TATA, AIG General Insurance Company Ltd., was officially launched by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Temsuwati Longkumer in the district hospital premises on Wednesday.

The MMU is being launched to promote basic healthcare and proper medical facilities in rural areas and aims to minimise health risk and diseases in the district, The Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA) zonal head Chukhoyi Chiero said while delivering a welcome address.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kiphire Dr. R WapangImchen in his speech, highlighted that the MMU is equipped with a medical team, and plays a crucial role in providing healthcare facilities to unreachable population where hospital is not available. The MMU service is free of cost. The CMO also mentioned that there is not enough doctors, nurse and medical staff as required for the population, however, he encouraged the available team to work sincerely for the people.

MMU service in the district would kickstart its first assignment across villages in the district very soon, the official said. He added that there will be 10 MMU operations every month across different villages under Kiphire.

President Government and Rural Business TATA AIG, Madhukar Sinha mentioned that the TATA group is community-centred where it is committed to the welfare and uplifting of communities in the country. He expressed hope that the newly launched MMU will help in reaching the needy in the remote areas under Kiphire district.

DC Kiphire Longkumer in his address as the chief guest of the occasion, lauded the TATA group for always being in the forefront of community services through its massive commitment and philanthropy works which is largely appreciated by the country and the world.

He mentioned how it is very difficult to travel in the distant parts of the district due to bad roads and connectivity yet, the team undertook all odds to give their service to the district.

The DC requested the TATA representatives to organise community programs where students, youths and people of Kiphire can be made aware of the uplifting programs under TATA such as the various facilities, scholarship and other schemes they offer to uplift the population.

Also encouraging the doctors and hospitals staffs to sincerely and willingly make use of the MMU which is going to save lives and improve healthcare in many ways, the DC expressed his desire to coordinate and work hand in hand on behalf of the district administration.

The MMU was officially flagged off by DC Longkumer alongside Sinha, after the formal programme concluded.

The program was also attended by representatives of USSC, and various tribal organisations.
