Modi stakes claim to form govt, says he will take oath as Prime Minister on 9th June

New Delhi: India will continue to develop at faster pace than during previous two terms, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday and staked claim to form the government at the Centre. The President then handed over the letter to him to form the NDA government.

The President’s Secretariat informed that the President has appointed Narendra Modi to the office of Prime Minister of India and requested him to advise her about the names of other persons to be appointed members of the Union Council of Ministers; and indicate the date and time of the swearing-in-ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Earlier in the day, Modi was formally elected as the Leader of the National Democratic Alliance at the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting held at the Central Hall, Old Parliament Building in the Capital. The meeting was attended by all the leaders of NDA alliance Parties.

After the meeting, the top brass of NDA called on the President and handed over a letter stating that Modi had been elected leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party. Letters of support from NDA constituent parties were also handed over to the President, the President’s Secretariat informed.

Speaking outside Rashtrapati Bhavan after meeting the President, Modi stated that he had informed the President that evening of June 9 would be suitable for the NDA to be sworn in. Modi will become the 15th Prime Minister of India.

He thanked the alliance partners for trusting him to be the leader once again and also the citizens for giving NDA the chance to serve the country for the third time. He assured that “India will continue to develop in every sector at an even faster pace than during our previous two terms.”

Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) S Phangnon Konyak and President of Nagaland State BJP Benjamin Yepthomi also attended the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting at Delhi today.
