The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) organised ‘Candlelight Vigil, Prayer for Peace in Manipur’ on 9 July 2023 in Mokokchung, in solidarity with the people of Manipur who are facing challenging times characterized by terror, hunger, and loss of lives. ABAM (Ao Baptist Churches Association) held the event at the Town Square of Mokokchung.
The purpose of the vigil was to offer prayers for peace in the strife torn neighbour state and to show support to the affected people.

The Executive Secretary of ABAM, Rev Dr Mar Pongener, addressing the attendees, conveyed that even though they could not physically be present in Manipur, their prayers served as a symbol of unity and compassion during this difficult period.
Numerous organizations, including Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, and other tribal unions and associations, participated in the candlelight vigil. Children also attended the program, and members of the Ao Baptist Churches from Mokokchung and concerned citizens from various backgrounds were present.
To ensure the participation of all churches under the ABAM, the executive secretary mentioned that similar vigils were simultaneously held in all the 127 Ao Baptist churches and 13 fellowships.
During the ABAM event in Mokokchung, attendees were shown video clips depicting the situation in Manipur, which further emphasized the urgency of their prayers. The gathering engaged in prayer and concluded with a collective rendition of the song “We Shall Overcome.”
The candlelight vigil witnessed an impressive turnout, with thousands of people gathering to show their support and solidarity with the people of Manipur.
