Mokokchung: Assistive Aids distributed to PwDs

Mokokchung: 50 wheelchairs, 50 walking stick elbows, 50 underarm crutches and 30 hearing aids were distributed to the beneficiaries

Assistive aids were distributed to differently abled persons on Thursday at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung. The distribution of assistive aids was a CSR initiative of District Administration, Mokokchung and Ocwen Financial Corporation, Bangalore.

During the programme, 50 wheelchairs, 50 walking stick elbows, 50 underarm crutches and 30 hearing aids were distributed to the beneficiaries.

Speaking as the Special Guest, Sharingain Longkumer, speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), said everyone suffers with a form of disability but only those who are physically disabled are seen.

He said unlike other advanced countries, disability is a subject matter new to our society and is least discussed. However, it is time we should realize that it is not a subject to be discussed but a matter to be addressed, he stressed.

Sharingain said the assistive aids were given so as to let the special persons express and demonstrate their abilities and show what they are capable of.

The NLA Speaker expressed his appreciation to Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung and his team for all the initiatives taken and thanked the Ocwen Financial Corporation, Bangalore for their noble deeds.

Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, delivered the Keynote address while a short speech was delivered by the representing member of the Ocwen Financial Corporation. A special number was presented by Imwapangla Ozukum while vote of thanks was proposed by the chairperson of the programme, Sentilong Ozukum, SDO (Civil), Mokokchung.
